Mile High Memories to be made in this city! Tom & I went to Denver for a ski trip with a great group of friends. We hit the slopes at Copper Mountain with everyone and then stayed a little longer to explore the city of Denver! If breweries, good food, and the great outdoors are your thing, make sure Denver is on your list of cities to visit.
Check out our other pages for our FULL itinerary & highlight video!
Copper Mountain
Best Eats
- We packed snacks & lunches for the mountain to minimize downtime - trail mix, energy bars, sandwiches, chips, etc. We often met at the base of Center Village and ordered a quick beer and/or coffee to have with a packed lunch.
- We also opted for family-style dinners to save costs - lasagna, burgers, tacos, etc.
- Tommyknocker Brewery & Pub: If traveling from Denver, we recommend taking a pitstop in Idaho Springs at Tommyknockers! We recommend a beer flight and their house specialty - Mac & Cheese. Warning: come hungry!!
Must do, Must see
- Hit the slopes!! Lots of great runs from beginners (bunny training slopes at West Village) to experienced (blues & blacks for both speed & agility with some moguls and terrain parks)
- Center Village: shopping center, ice skating rink, lots of restaurants for apres
- East Village: snow tubing, the Woodward Barn (indoor action sports playground)
Tips and Tricks
- Accommodations: There are tons of places to stay however, I cannot recommend our cute AirBnB more! It was the perfect size for our group and was right at the base of the mountain at East Village - very easy to walk to the lift & ski rental shops.
- Ski Rentals: We rented from Christy Sports and they made sizing, pick up, drop off, etc super easy!
Denver
Best Eats
- Dairy Block: try the milk market for lunch; otherwise best variety of restaurants for dinner
- Union Station: great historic train station for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!
- Snooze (breakfast)
- Denver Biscuit Co. (breakfast)
- Lula Rose (coffee shop)
- Denver Central Market (food hall, best for lunch)
- Cafe Miriam (French lunch, Morrocan dinner)
- The Woods (rooftop restaurant with gorgeous views)
- King of Wings (lunch or dinner)
- Larimer Square (dinner)
- Barcelona Wine Bar (dinner)
Best Breweries
- Cannot talk about Denver without breweries and cannot talk about breweries without RiNo (River North District)
- First Draft Taproom (swipe your card at a wall of local beer taps to find your favorite)
- Our Mutual Friend Brewing
- Ratio Beerworks
- Stem Ciders
Must do, Must see
- Downtown Aquarium
- Parks along South Platte River
- Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum
- Museum of Nature & Science
- Denver Zoo
- Botanical Gardens
- Red Rock Amphitheater
- Coors Brewery Tour
Tips and Tricks
- We used the CityPass for entrance to the zoo, aquarium, museums, etc! See if it's worth doing for your visit.
- Downtown is rather walkable up & down 16th Street. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency and walked most places downtown, and Ubered most other locations.
- We visited in winter and took advantage of skiing! If you're there in the spring/summer, consider checking out some of the local parks for hiking, biking, rafting adventures! Rocky Mountain National Park is less than a 2-hour drive from Denver.
